Two publications either are or will be available to the public for a donation with the proceeds going to the OAA Sports Museum.  They are "Championship Sports Memories" prepared by Jim Millert and "The Time was Right" by Kyle Goings. See below for further descriptions of both publications. 

CHAMPIONSHIP SPORTS MEMORIES

Do you want to confirm that either you or a friend were on a championship team while at Orland High, or show a grandchild that you could "play a little ball" back in the day?  Well, you can do that with the bound first edition of the OHS CHAMPIONSHIP SPORTS MEMORIES.  This edition contains the same write-ups that are currently on display in the trophy cases at the OHS gymnasium for all boys and girls championship teams from 1914 to 2007.  Over one-thousand names of Orland Trojan athletes and coaches are listed.

You can recall the girls' dominance as they won a total of seventeen Westside League Championships in softball and tennis, with seven of those section titles from 1981 to 2004.  Read about the powerful boy's football team that went undefeated in 1944, the powerful teams led by Steve Bates in the mid 1950s, and the 1961 team that beat big city teams from Reno and Sacramento on their way to being named the number one team in Northern California.  You can also relive the ten straight Westside League track and field championships in the 1950s and 60s, the great wrestling teams that won twenty league championships and five section titles beginning in 1974, and the Orland boys basketball teams that won six straight championships and 63 our of 64 league games in the early 1960s.

OHS CHAMPIONSHIP SPORTS MEMORIES is compiled by sport, gender and year for quick reference.  All of this is available for a tax deductible donation of $40.00 to OAA that covers copying costs, shipping, and supports the Orland Sports Museum.

TIME WAS RIGHT

OAA is currently preparing a second sports book for publication that will be offered to the public for a donation.  The title of the book is "The Time was Right."  It was prepared by a recent Orland graduate, Kyle Goings as a class project and covers the very successful football and basketball teams of the mid fifties and early sixties.  We will have a rough copy available for you to to examine at the Annual Dinner February 26, 2011 and hope to be taking orders soon.
